Find the nearest village to spawn

Enter your seed and every village in range is marked. Villages are the fastest early-game upgrade in Minecraft: beds, food crops, a free bell to mark your base, and villagers to trade with once you set up workstations. Finding one close to spawn changes the shape of a whole playthrough.

Turn on the Pillager outposts layer too. An outpost near a village means raids, which is either a problem to plan around or an easy source of emeralds depending on how you want to play it.

Villages only generate in six biomes

Plains, desert, savanna, taiga, snowy plains and meadow. Each produces a distinct village style, so the biome layer tells you what a village will look like before you travel. A village sitting on a border between two of these can generate with a mix of both styles.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a village in Minecraft?

Enter your world seed and every village is marked on the map. Click one to see its chunk and copy a /tp command. Villages only generate in plains, desert, savanna, taiga, snowy plains and meadow biomes, so turn the biome layer on to see why they sit where they do.

Which biomes have villages?

Six: plains, desert, savanna, taiga, snowy plains and meadow. Each has its own village style with different building materials and villager outfits. The map only marks a village where the biome actually allows one, so what you see is what generates.

How far apart are villages?

Minecraft divides the world into a grid 34 chunks across and tries to place one village per cell, with a minimum of 8 chunks between neighbours. That works out to a village every 500 or so blocks on average in suitable biomes, though stretches of ocean or jungle can leave big gaps.

Can I find a village with a specific building?

Not from a map. Village layout is decided by a jigsaw generator when the chunk loads, so which houses appear is not something a coordinate map can show. What you can do is find the nearest village of the right biome type and go look.

Does this work for Minecraft Bedrock Edition?

Yes. Use the Java / Bedrock toggle above the map. Be aware the two editions are not interchangeable: since 1.18 they share terrain and biome generation, so the landscape for a given seed looks nearly the same, but structures like villages and strongholds use edition-specific placement and end up in different places. Bedrock also uses 32-bit seeds where Java uses 64-bit.

Is my seed sent to a server?

No. The whole map is computed in your browser with JavaScript. Your seed never leaves your device, there is no account, and no download is necessary.

Can I share a link to what I am looking at?

Yes. The address bar updates as you pan and zoom, so you can copy the URL at any time, or press Copy link. Anyone opening it lands on the same seed at the same position and zoom.

What do the grid lines mean?

The fine grid is chunks (16x16 blocks), which is the unit slime chunks and mob spawning work in. The heavier grid is regions (512x512 blocks, or 32x32 chunks), which is the unit Minecraft uses when deciding where to place structures. Brighter lines through the middle mark the world origin at X=0, Z=0.
