Find the end portal without wasting eyes

Every world has 128 strongholds and every stronghold has an end portal. The usual method is throwing eyes of ender and following them, which costs an eye roughly every time and can still leave you digging blindly. With your seed the answer is already known: the map places all 128, so you can pick the nearest and walk straight there.

Click any marker to copy a teleport command. Turn the biome layer on to see what terrain you will be crossing on the way.

How strongholds are placed

Strongholds do not use the region grid the other structures use. Minecraft arranges them in eight concentric rings around the world origin. The innermost ring holds 3, and each ring outward holds progressively more until all 128 are placed, out past 20,000 blocks. Within a ring the game walks around the circle at even angles, adding a random wobble to each radius, which is why the inner three are roughly equidistant from spawn but never in exactly the same place twice. The outermost sit past 24,000 blocks.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a stronghold in Minecraft?

Enter your seed and the map places all 128 strongholds. Every one contains an end portal, so head for whichever is closest. In game you can also throw an eye of ender and follow it, but the map tells you the destination before you spend a single eye.

How many strongholds are there?

Since 1.9 there are 128 per world, arranged in eight concentric rings around the world origin. The innermost ring holds 3 strongholds, between about 1,400 and 2,700 blocks from spawn, and each ring further out holds more. Older versions had only 3 in total.

Where is the closest stronghold to spawn?

Zoom out on the map and look at the innermost ring. The first ring averages a little over 2,000 blocks from the origin, and never lands closer than about 1,400, though the exact distance is randomised per seed. Click any marker to copy a teleport command straight to it.

Does every stronghold have an end portal?

Yes. Every stronghold generates exactly one end portal room. The portal frames come with a random number of eyes of ender already placed, sometimes zero, so bring up to 12 with you.

Why is the stronghold slightly off from the marker?

The map computes the ring position that Minecraft generates from your seed. In game the final placement is then nudged towards a suitable biome, which can shift it by a short distance. Expect the stronghold within a couple of hundred blocks of the marker rather than exactly on it, and dig around once you arrive.

Does this work for Minecraft Bedrock Edition?

Yes. Use the Java / Bedrock toggle above the map. Be aware the two editions are not interchangeable: since 1.18 they share terrain and biome generation, so the landscape for a given seed looks nearly the same, but structures like villages and strongholds use edition-specific placement and end up in different places. Bedrock also uses 32-bit seeds where Java uses 64-bit.

Is my seed sent to a server?

No. The whole map is computed in your browser with JavaScript. Your seed never leaves your device, there is no account, and no download is necessary.

Can I share a link to what I am looking at?

Yes. The address bar updates as you pan and zoom, so you can copy the URL at any time, or press Copy link. Anyone opening it lands on the same seed at the same position and zoom.

What do the grid lines mean?

The fine grid is chunks (16x16 blocks), which is the unit slime chunks and mob spawning work in. The heavier grid is regions (512x512 blocks, or 32x32 chunks), which is the unit Minecraft uses when deciding where to place structures. Brighter lines through the middle mark the world origin at X=0, Z=0.
